Egyptian Pavilion

The Egypt Pavilion is strategically located in the Opportunity District, situated between the Swiss and Saudi Arabian pavilions. The motto of the current pavilion is "Legacy Empowering the Future," emphasizing Egypt's storied past. In my redesign, I aimed to link Egypt's future with global prosperity by focusing on a shared crisis: the global water shortage.

The Nile River, a major north-flowing waterway in northeastern Africa, serves as a lens through which we can explore this issue. The river's historical significance and the knowledge associated with it make it an apt focal point for discussing the water crisis.

The redesigned pavilion is divided into three main zones:

  1. "Nile Path" showcases Egypt's contributions to addressing the water crisis.

  2. "Tree of Life" gathers visitors around a 3D-mapped virtual tree, prompting them to consider the future relationship between humanity and nature.

  3. "All Zone," the pavilion's final section, features the "Surface of All"—a large screen displaying faces of individuals from diverse nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. This screen includes openings that offer a view of visitors entering the pavilion.

By juxtaposing water and earth—the two elemental building blocks of our planet—I aim to bring attention to the water crisis. Water is used in the ground-level landscape to both humidify the arid climate and create visual effects through its reflective properties. Rammed earth serves as the primary building material, paying homage to Egypt's rich history of earthen architecture.
